Create Walkable Neighborhoods
This is a perfectly logical goal. But it must be implemented in a common sense way. Where economically practical, retail establishments can be located a short walk away from any home. In a low density, more rural community desired by so many people, it is just not practical to walk several miles to the local store, especially when combined with open spaces which Smart Growthers like. Of course, for many people, the benefit of enjoying a larger lot with a “country” feel outweighs the benefit of walking to the store. But that is THEIR CHOICE.
