In July 2006, Amador County began the process of updating its General Plan, a document with various “Elements” which has significant legal implications for property owners. Property owners and citizens of Amador County should pay close attention to this process.
The Board of Supervisors appointed a 10-member General Plan Advisory Committee (GPAC). The County’s website states, “The Committee will review and provide feedback on a future vision for conservation and development within the County, key policy issues and plan proposals, and will assist with outreach and communication with the general public throughout the update process.
“Five members (and their alternates) each represent one of the five districts in the County. The other five members (and their alternates) were chosen from the Commission on Aging, Board of Realtors, Foothill Conservancy, Farm Bureau and Chamber of Commerce.”
One of the first Elements to be considered was an “Agricultural Element,” which became very controversial because of its serious negative implications for property owners. Other Elements have since been discussed by GPAC.
GPAC is currently working on the Preliminary Goals and Policies.
